Jeff Stelling has said on the Gillette Soccer Saturday show on Sky Sports News (2:03pm, October 23, 2021) that Steven Gerrard’s Rangers have not progressed from last season.

The Soccer Saturday presenter drew the conclusion after having a discussion with former Rangers striker Kris Boyd on the show.

Stelling made the comments while discussing whether Gerrard would leave Rangers for Newcastle United now.

The Northern Echo have reported that Rangers boss Gerrard is being considered by Newcastle’s new owners, Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF).

However, the former Liverpool midfielder has said on BT Sport 3 (10:20pm, October 21, 2021) that he is happy and settled at Rangers.

Stelling asked Boyd: “Are Rangers progressing this year? Are they? Are Rangers progressing this year from last year?”

Boyd responded: “Jeff, come on.”

Stelling: “Are they?”

Boyd: “Yes, of course, they are. They are at the top of the table.”

Stelling: “Of course, they are at the top of the table. Are they a better side this year than last year?”

Boyd: “I think last year they totally obliterated everybody.”

Stelling: “So, they are not. Okay, that’s the answer.”

Are Rangers progressing?

Rangers were superb last season.

The Gers won the Scottish Premiership title last season without losing a single game.

Gerrard also guided the Ibrox club to the Europa League Round of 16.

Now, Rangers are doing well this season.

We cannot deny that.

The Gers are at the top of the league table at the moment and could also progress to the next round of Europa League.

However, Rangers have lost once already in the league and could not go through to the Champions League group stage.
