The Everton prospect was hugely impressive against Apollon Limassol.
Nikola Vlasic has taken time to adapt after joining Everton in the summer, but the prospect’s performance in the 3-0 victory away to Apollon Limassol in the Europa League Thursday night was rather encouraging.
There was nothing riding on the game from Everton’s perspective given that they had already been eliminated from the competition, with a host of players rested ahead of the Merseyside derby against Liverpool on Sunday.
That meant that several fringe and academy players were given opportunities to impress, and Vlasic certainly seized his opportunity as he scored and also provided an assist for Ademola Lookman.
It was his performances in the Europa League for Hajduk Split which alerted Everton to Vlasic in the first place, and the Croatian certainly seems to relish playing in this competition.
Although he is also capable of playing as an attacking midfielder if required, Vlasic thrived as a right winger last night as he demonstrated his excellent technique.
The 20-year-old is admittedly still rather raw and perhaps isn’t ready to start regularly in the Premier League just yet, but he will hope that his display will convince Allardyce to at least involve him as a substitute against Liverpool.
The Everton boss wasn’t present against Apollon, as he attended a medical appointment, but he will undoubtedly be aware of the significant impact that Vlasic made.
