Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with two talented Premier League midfielders.
With the January transfer window rapidly approaching Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with several players amidst suggestions that Mauricio Pochettino will strengthen his squad.
It appears that Pochettino is eager to bring in a new midfielder, with Everton’s Ross Barkley amongst the players under consideration, as reported by The Telegraph.
As an alternative option Tottenham are also exploring the possibility of bringing in Manuel Lanzini from West Ham United, as reported by ESPN.
Barkley and Lanzini, aged 23 and 24 respectively, would certainly be useful additions but the likelihood is that there would only be room for one of them in Pochettino’s squad and it seems that Barkley would be the better choice.
Barkley has yet to play this season due to injury but is closing in on a return to full fitness and should feature for Everton soon.
When at his sharpest Barkley’s quality is undeniable given his strength, passing range and excellent dribbling. There remain question marks regarding his consistency but if the deal did go ahead then Pochettino would surely be able to transform Barkley into an extremely hard-working player.
Lanzini is also hugely talented but has not been quite as influential for West Ham this campaign as he was last season – he has only scored one goal and provided one assist in nine Premier League appearances.
The Argentine is capable of weaving his way past opponents with ease but is rather similar in style to Christian Eriksen and also possesses some similar attributes to Dele Alli.
Barkley would offer something different with his power and is certainly an option worth considering for Pochettino.
