The appointment of the new Everton manager hasn’t been a widely popular choice.
Allardyce was appointed as the new Everton manager this week, as the club’s search for a permanent successor to Ronald Koeman finally reached its conclusion.
However, Allardyce’s appointment has certainly not been met with universal approval, with many observers suggesting that Everton should have appointed a younger coach who isn’t quite as defensively-minded.
Moshiri, though, is adamant that Allardyce is exactly what Everton need to get them out of their current predicament.
As reported by ITV, Moshiri said: “He’s a strong leader, great track record and he will be able to stabilise Everton’s position in the top half of the table and give us a platform to move on.
“I think in many ways he’s the most underrated British manager. A lot of people have forgotten his work at Bolton, where they played very good football.”
There have been several difficult moments for Everton this season, but Allardyce will certainly have been delighted when watching on as his new side thrashed West Ham United 4-0 in midweek.
Allardyce’s first game in charge of Everton is at home to Huddersfield Town Saturday afternoon, with the visitors aiming to bounce back from the 5-0 defeat that they suffered against Arsenal.
Despite the scepticism in some quarters surrounding his appointment, Allardyce has a proven track record of helping relegation threatened clubs to preserve their Premier League status and he is certainly capable of moving Everton into the top 10 this season.
Allardyce’s reputation for instructing his sides to adopt a defensive approach has led to him receiving much criticism, but given their current circumstances and how vulnerable they have been at the back this season, he is the perfect appointment for Everton at present. He is also a master of getting the best out of his players, which is a real positive for an Everton squad which has been high on quality, but low on confidence.
