The West Bromwich Albion centre-back has again been linked with a move away from the club.
It has been a difficult season for West Bromwich Albion so far, with the club languishing in 17th place in the Premier League, just two points above the relegation zone.
Alan Pardew has replaced Tony Pulis as Head Coach, as West Brom look to start performing more effectively. There could, however, be a further setback for the club to endure in the January transfer window – with captain Jonny Evans continuing to be linked with a move away.
Evans was the subject of interest from several clubs in the summer, and, as reported by The Telegraph, Arsenal and Manchester City will attempt to sign the Northern Ireland international in January.
While West Brom have struggled this season, they haven’t been catastrophic defensively. Indeed, they have conceded 21 goals, four fewer than Watford, who are in eighth place in the table.
Evans’ experience and leadership qualities make him a valuable asset for West Brom, while his composure in possession and authority at the back mean that, if he remains at the club, he will have a major part to play in his side’s quest to avoid relegation.
Losing Evans midway through the season, and during a window where it will be difficult to find a quality replacement at short notice, could be disastrous for West Brom.
Although Ahmed Hegazi has fared well this season, Evans remains West Brom’s most important defender and retaining his services, until the end of the campaign at least, is pivotal for Pardew.
