Middlesbrough face some difficult fixtures in their quest to secure a play-off place.

Although they have lost their last two games, Middlesbrough are in ninth place in the Championship and are still in with a good chance of gaining a place in the play-offs.

Garry Monk’s side face some crucial fixtures in the near future, however, as they look to gain some much-needed momentum.

Here’s a look at how Middlesbrough could get on in their next five Championship games:

Saturday – Ipswich Town (home) – Prediction: Ipswich win 1-1.

Ipswich are also seeking to get into the play-offs and have won their last two league games so will be eager to prevail against Middlesbrough, although it is expected to be a close encounter.

December 16th – Millwall (away) – Prediction: Middlesbrough win 1-0

Although Millwall won their last fixture against Sheffield United, Neil Harris’ side have struggled this season and are currently in 17th place in the table.

This game represents a good chance for Middlesbrough to take three points and start to get back on track.

December 23rd – Sheffield Wednesday (away) – Prediction: 1-1 draw

Sheffield Wednesday are draw specialists at the moment, with each of their last four games having ended level.

Carlos Carvalhal’s team can be exploited defensively, however, and Middlesbrough will be hoping for a victory, but they may have to settle for just a point.

December 26th – Bolton Wanderers (home) – Prediction: Middlesbrough win 3-1

Bolton are in serious danger of being relegated to League One and Middlesbrough have a good chance of securing a comfortable victory in this game, with Monk hoping that his side are at their sharpest going forwards.

December 30th – Aston Villa (home) – Prediction: 1-1 draw

Villa are currently occupying a play-off berth but, given that they have home advantage, Middlesbrough will look to take at least something from this game.

Getting a point against Villa would represent a step in the right direction for Villa and would show that they can compete with their fellow play-off contenders.

Overall, an unbeaten run and a return of 9 points out of a possible 15 from some difficult games would surely be seen as a positive by Monk and the Middlesbrough fans.
