Derby are flying high, aiming to secure promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs.

Derby County are determined to finally return to the Premier League and it appears that they have a good chance of at least securing a place in the play-offs this season, with Gary Rowett’s side currently in sixth place in the Championship.

The next five games could be very important for Derby in terms of maintaining their momentum and boosting their chances of promotion.

Here’s our prediction for Derby’s next five Championship matches:

Saturday – Barnsley – away – Prediction: Derby win 3-0

A general view of Oakwell stadium during the pre season friendly at Oakwell Stadium between Barnsley and Huddersfield Town on July 22, 2017 in Barnsley, England.

While Derby are enjoying an impressive season, the same certainly cannot be said of Barnsley, who are languishing in 19th place in the Championship table and are in danger of being relegated.

It is widely expected that Derby will prevail in this game. and it could be a good opportunity for them to boost their goal difference too.

December 16th – Aston Villa – home – Prediction: 2-2 draw.

This will definitely be an interesting game, with both sides battling for a place in the play-offs.

Villa have been impressive of late – they have won three and drawn one of their last four league games – and this should be a closely fought encounter.

December 23rd – Millwall – home – Prediction: Derby win 2-0.

Millwall prevailed against Sheffield United in their last fixture, but they have generally struggled this season and shouldn’t cause too many problems for Derby.

December 26th – Hull City – away – Prediction: Derby win 2-0

Another game against a relegation-threatened side, Derby will be aiming to take another three points from this fixture.

Hull have been vulnerable defensively this season – they have conceded 37 goals in the Championship – which should suit Derby well.

December 30th – Ipswich Town – away – Prediction: Ipswich win 1-0

Another away fixture sees Derby travel to face an Ipswich team that are currently just two points below them in the table.

Ipswich, given that they have home advantage and have won six of their ten games at Portman Road this season, could well win what will be a tight game.

Overall, we predict that Derby will bag 10 points from their next 5 Championship games.
