The Brighton centre-back could be the answer to Liverpool’s problems.
It is clear that Liverpool’s defence is in need of rejuvenation and, when he takes his side to face Brighton & Hove Albion away on Saturday, Jurgen Klopp is likely to witness at first hand a potential solution to the problem.
Lewis Dunk has played every minute for Brighton in the Premier League this season and has performed to a consistently high standard, making some crucial blocks and clearances.
The 26-year-old, who had never previously played in the top flight, perhaps hasn’t received as much praise from outside his own club as he has deserved.
Against Liverpool, though, Dunk has an opportunity to impress Klopp and potentially convince him that he could help to make the Reds more resolute at the back.
Although Brighton are in tenth place in the Premier League, five positions below Liverpool, they have only conceded 14 goals this season, while Klopp’s team have let in 18.
There may understandably be some concerns amongst Liverpool supporters regarding whether Dunk would be a suitable option given his lack of experience at the highest level, especially in the Champions League.
However, Dunk has demonstrated so far this season that he is unfazed by any task he faces and he could be about to provide Liverpool with further evidence that he is a player worth pursuing.
