The Rangers midfielder was very impressive against Aberdeen. Could he become a regular first-teamer at at Ibrox ?
Carlos Pena has yet to command a regular starting berth for Rangers since his summer switch from Guadalajara, but the midfielder provided an example of the quality that he possesses with an impressive display against Aberdeen last night.
Known for his strength and impressive reactions, Pena got on the scoresheet in Rangers’ 3-0 victory over Aberdeen and will hope that he will now be afforded regular opportunities to catch the eye for Graeme Murty’s side.
Pena now has an impressive record of four goals in eight league games for Rangers and, although some questions have been raised regarding his work-rate, the 27-year-old certainly seems capable of giving his side an extra edge in midfield.
The victory over Aberdeen saw Rangers move up to third place in the league, although they are still some seven points adrift of leaders Celtic.
If Rangers are to stand a chance of somehow catching Celtic and ending the recent dominance that Brendan Rodgers’ side have enjoyed, then Pena could well have a major part to play in proceedings.
Rangers face Aberdeen (again) on Sunday – this time in an away fixture – and Pena, if indeed he is involved, will be aiming to thrive once again, with the Mexican becoming an increasingly popular figure amongst the club’s supporters.
