The season started encouragingly enough for Aston Villa’s Henri Lansbury, with two assists against Norwich City providing an indication of his quality.

Since then, however, the midfielder has had to endure much frustration as he found himself dropped from the starting line-up and later suffered an injury which halted his progress.

After regaining full fitness Lansbury has been back involved with the Villa squad in recent weeks but he has so far not been able to get onto the pitch for Steve Bruce’s team as he has remained an unused substitute for each of the club’s last three Championship games.

Villa have won all of those fixtures and, understandably, Bruce appears reluctant to make many changes to a team that is performing with cohesion and dynamism.

Lansbury, however, could still have a major part to play as the season progresses. Capable of having an impact whether deployed centrally or out wide, he is a fine passer of the ball and also frequently gets into dangerous goalscoring positions himself.

Villa are back in action tomorrow night when they face Leeds United away and Lansbury will hope to be involved in that fixture, most likely as a substitute, as he looks to remind Bruce of the quality that he possesses.
