The West Ham goalkeeper has endured some difficult moments this season.
England legend Gordon Banks has criticised Joe Hart, stating that the West Ham United goalkeeper has made some terrible mistakes.
Hart is on a season-long loan at West Ham from Manchester City but has endured a miserable campaign so far which has seen him concede 30 goals in the Premier League, while he has kept just three clean sheets in 14 matches.
As reported by BBC Sport, Banks said: “I don’t think he is playing well, especially when they kick it to him and he can’t pick up.
“I see him make terrible mistakes, lots of times he is lucky they don’t score.”
Banks, who was part of the successful England side at the 1966 World Cup, is certainly right to criticise Hart, who has produced some woeful performances this season.
Although West Ham’s defence certainly has to take some of the blame, Hart has frequently made misjudgements and, rather bizarrely, often doesn’t even dive when the ball is coming towards him.
On Wednesday night a disappointing clearance from Hart resulted in him being beaten by a long-range effort from Everton’s Wayne Rooney and the goalkeeper certainly isn’t at his best at present.
If Hart’s struggles continue throughout the campaign then his place in the England starting line-up for next summer’s World Cup in Russia will surely be under threat, with Stoke City’s Jack Butland and Everton’s Jordan Pickford also vying for the position.
