Jazz Chisholm Jr. did not back away from saying the Yankees can win the World Series, and his response made more sense than the criticism.
The noise started after Chisholm appeared on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon to promote his foundation and was asked about New York’s goal.
He said the Yankees wanted a championship, then doubled down when Fallon asked if they would do it. That confidence became a bigger story than the charity work he came to discuss.

Jazz Chisholm Yankees prediction draws stupid criticism response
The exchange shared by Gary Phillips showed Chisholm pushing back after jokes and criticism followed his World Series answer.
“Do people want me to say, ‘Umm, I think my team is gonna come in third place and not make the playoffs and not get to the World Series? We’re not gonna win it all this year, you guys.’”
“Like no, that’s stupid.”
Chisholm is right on the basic point. A Yankees player saying the Yankees want to win everything should not be treated like a scandal.
Guardians broadcaster Tom Hamilton helped fuel the backlash by noting it was “pretty amazing” Chisholm landed on Fallon while batting .239. Hamilton later said the joke was not meant to belittle him.
Yankees standings still support Chisholm’s confidence
The Yankees are not some lost team pretending to matter. Baseball-Reference lists them at 36-25, second in the AL East, with a strong postseason outlook.
That does not mean Chisholm’s season has been perfect. ESPN lists him at .239 with six homers, 20 RBIs and 14 steals entering Wednesday’s game against Cleveland.
He then homered in the 5-4 loss to the Guardians, giving him seven on the season. The Yankees still need more consistent offense from him, especially with Aaron Judge dealing with a rib issue.
Chisholm’s Yankees swagger needs production behind it
This is why the debate has two truths. Chisholm should be allowed to believe in his team, but a contract-year player batting around .239 invites sharper reactions.
His May was better than his April, and his power-speed profile still gives New York something valuable. The Yankees just need the confidence to become productive more often.
For now, Chisholm’s answer was not arrogant. It was what a player on a serious contender should say.
