Jay-Roy Grot has expressed his admiration of Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo on Instagram after the Leeds United summer transfer target scored against Everton at Anfield in the Merseyside derby on Monday evening.

Gakpo, who could have joined Leeds from PSV in the summer of 2022, scored for Liverpool against Everton in the Premier League last night.

It was the Netherlands international forward’s first goal for Jurgen Klopp’s side since his move from PSV in the January transfer window.

Gakpo told The Daily Mail last week that he picked Liverpool over Chelsea in the January transfer window.

The 23-year-old also said that Leeds wanted to sign him in the summer of 2022, but he decided to heed the advice of then Netherlands national team head coach Louis van Gaal and decided to stay at PSV.

Gakpo decided not to make the move to a new club ahead of the 2022 Qatar World Cup.

The Dutchman played in the tournament.

And then last month, he moved to Liverpool.

Jay-Roy Grot seems pleased to see Gakpo doing well at Liverpool, as you can see from his Instagram post below.

The 24-year-old Dutchman was on the books of Leeds from 2017 until 2020.

The forward is now playing for Kashiwa Reysol in Japan.
