Jay-Roy Grot has suggested on Vitesse’s official website that joining Dutch club Vitesse on loan from Leeds United is a step-up for him.

Grot has moved to Dutch side Vitesse on a season-long loan deal from Leeds in the Championship in England in the summer transfer window.

The 21-year-old striker is delighted to have joined Leonid Slutsky’s side, and the Dutchman – who can also operate as a winger – has suggested that it is a step up for him.

Grot told Vitesse’s official website: “It feels great because I was born in Arnhem and I now play in the shirt of Vitesse.

“It is a childhood dream come true for me because my heart is in Arnhem. Vitesse are a large and ambitious club.

“From the first moment the feeling is good at Vitesse. It is a step-up for me and I am going to give everything to contribute to the success of the club.”

Stats

Grot joined Leeds from NEC Nijmegen in the summer of 2017 for a transfer fee reported by The Yorkshire Evening Post to be worth £750,000.

The striker struggled to make an impact at Elland Road during the 2017-18 campaign and spent the 2018-19 campaign on loan at VVV-Venlo in the Netherlands.

The Dutch youngster made 19 starts and 14 substitute appearances in the Eredivisie, scoring six goals and providing three assists in the process, according to WhoScored.

It is hard to see Grot have a long-term future at Leeds.
