Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly keen on West Bromwich Albion’s Jay Rodriguez.
Tottenham Hotspur’s season is somewhat petering out after Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to Manchester United in the semi-finals of the FA Cup, and boss Mauricio Pochettino has plenty to think about.
His side have once again failed to win a trophy, and as it’s now 10 years without silverware for Spurs, Pochettino may be considering new signings.
With Fernando Llorente struggling since his August move from Swansea City, and potentially heading for the exit door already, a new forward could be on the radar – and Jay Rodriguez is again being linked with the club.
The Independent report that West Bromwich Albion forward Rodriguez is under consideration for a move to North London, which would see him reunite with his former Southampton boss Pochettino.
Rodriguez, 28, has hit 11 goals in 39 games for West Brom this season, but looks set to The Hawthorns this summer upon the Baggies’ imminent relegation to the Championship.
The forward was a favourite of Pochettino at Southampton, with BBC Sport reporting that Spurs attempted to sign him in 2014, and the Daily Mail added in January 2017 that Tottenham had made another enquiry.
Not only is a move ideal due to Pochettino’s history with Rodriguez, but his versatility would also be key, given that he can play out wide or up front, and offers a more mobile goal threat than target man Llorente.
Add in that Rodriguez would count as a homegrown player, and replacing Llorente with the Baggies ace would free up room for another foreign player in the Champions League, making a deal very, very appealing.
