Tranmere midfielder Jay Harris has insisted that his team ‘might have to get nasty’ as they ‘can’t give Tottenham too much respect’ ahead of their FA Cup clash on Friday night.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side will travel to Prenton Park hoping to avoid an upset against the League Two outfit in their own backyard.

Spurs come into this fixture having beaten Cardiff 3-0 in the Premier League on New Year’s Day, whilst their FA Cup opponents recorded a 1-1 draw at Macclesfield.

It remains to be seen if Pochettino will rotate his squad, with a number of key fixtures coming up for the London club in the next few weeks.

In four days time, Tottenham will host rivals Chelsea at Wembley in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final, with Manchester United travelling to the capital for a league fixture on that following weekend.

But before then, Spurs have a key FA Cup tie against Tranmere, with midfielder Harris sending a brutally honest message to the high-flying Premier League club.

“We might have to get nasty,” said Harris, as quoted by the Daily Mail. “Tottenham have got some world-class players but we can’t give them too much respect. We want it to be hostile and if we have to get horrible, so be it. We want to win.’

Tranmere, who are outside of the playoff places in the fourth tier of English football, have not lost a home game in all competitions since the end of October.

Tottenham were beaten by Manchester United in the semi-final’s of the FA Cup last season as Pochettino will be hoping his team can better their results and lift their first trophy under his stewardship.
