Jay Bothroyd has stated that he is ‘surprised’ how much the likes of Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur can sign James Maddison for following Leicester City’s relegation to the Championship.

The former Hale-End star posted on Twitter that the rumoured ‘£50 million’ price tag on James Maddison’s head is ‘low’ for an England international.

When the Foxes were still a Premier League team, they were seemingly rejecting such offers for the goalscoring midfielder, but now they will have to bite the financial bullet.

It will be interesting to see where Maddison ends up because there are a number of teams that could do with his signature – he wanted to join Tottenham last summer.

Given that Arsenal are back in the Champions League, then their squad needs to be elevated, whilst Tottenham have been crying out for a number ten for a while now.

Then there are some who have tipped Maddison to join Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United in the summer, just like Arsenal, they will also be playing Champions League football next term.

WHICH CLUB SHOULD MADDISON PICK?

Only a select few can offer the quick-thinking midfielder Champions League football and that has to be at the top of his list when picking his next club.

Arsenal and Newcastle United, two clubs that are on the up, can offer that, whilst Spurs have probably missed the boat with Maddison because they can’t offer any form of Europe.

Either way, whilst relegation has stung Leicester, who now have to rebuild, it’s still probably kept Maddison’s reputation intact and how he is ready to take the next step in his career.
