Javier Mascherano has wished Steven Gerrard ‘all the best’ at Aston Villa after his first day in training, as he posted on Instagram.
On Monday, Villa started a new life under their recently-appointed coach, who was all smiles at Bodymoor Heath.
After Gerrard had completed his first day, he posted on Instagram this message, which Mascherano simply replied to by saying ‘all the best mate’.
Ex-Villa midfielder Steve Sidwell, who knows Bodymoor Heath pretty well, also added ‘love it’.
This isn’t going to be easy for Gerrard who now faces the biggest challenge of his managerial career.
The Liverpool legend may have dominated opposition from the middle of the park during his playing days.
But it’s going to be a different story from the dugout for the Englishman.
One thing he needs to do straight away is lift the mood around the training ground and at Villa Park.
Suffering five defeats on the bounce doesn’t help anyone, but many Villa supporters are now very much looking forward to his first game in charge against Brighton on Saturday.
Several players who are away on international duty will slowly but surely join the new coaching staff at B6 this week, as they prepare for a tough festive period.
