Newcastle United are said to be trying to sign former Sunderland man Javier Manquillo from Atletico Madrid.
Javier Manquillo told the Telegraph last season that he wanted to make Sunderland his permanent home… but now he’s being targeting by Newcastle United, according to Mundo Deportivo.
Manquillo was loaned to Sunderland by Atletico Madrid last term, and he was desperate to turn the move into a permanent one.
The Spaniard was very impressed with the project that David Moyes was putting together at the Stadium of Light.

And the full-back said, at the start of the 2016/17 campaign: “I want to make Sunderland my permanent home.
“From my view this is a very important club, an historic club. They have a really interesting project that I wanted to be involved in.”
Of course, things did not plan out as Manquillo had hoped at Sunderland.
The 23-year-old was unable to stop Sunderland sinking into the Championship, and has now returned to Atelti.
However, even though Manquillo’s wish for a move to Sunderland may not have come to fruition, the ex-Liverpool man could yet make a home for himself in the North East.
If Manquillo was to move to Newcastle he would be in competition with Paul Dummett for a first-team place.
