The Liverpool flop has taken to social media to thank supporters.

Javier Manquillo has bid Liverpool fans farewell on Twitter after leaving the Reds this summer and joining Marseille on loan from Atletico Madrid.

The full-back burst onto the scene on Merseyside last season but his first-team stint was short lived and, after a disappointing first season at Anfield, his two-year loan spell with Liverpool was cut short this summer.

As Opta stats show, Manquillo managed just 761 Premier League minutes last season, with only Jose Enrique, Brad Jones and Jerome Sinclair making less appearances for Liverpool over the course of the campaign.

The 21-year-old nevertheless started off with plenty of promise at Anfield. Against Ludogorets in the Champions League, the right-back delivered a stellar performance.

That was the problem for Manquillo, though, as any opposition of a greater level than Ludogorets rendered his presence futile.

Still, he isn’t the only bad Brendan Rodgers buy and he certainly won’t be the last. At least he enjoyed the reception he received from the Liverpool fans and, who knows, he may be back at Anfield one day as a member of the opposition.
