West Ham centre-forward Javier Hernandez looked in brilliant form during the World Cup in the summer, but has looked a shadow of that player so far this season at club level.

The 30-year-old was an integral part of an eye-catching Mexico side at the World Cup, who were knocked out by Brazil in the last 16.

Speed machine Hernandez linked up play superbly for Mexico, while he also chipped in with a goal and an assist in the group stages.

But he’s been unable to carry on that form since returning to the London Stadium and Hammers supporters should be mystified as to why his levels have dipped.

West Ham were unable to get the best out of the striker in his first season last year, as he scored eight goals in 33 appearances across all competitions.

The ex-Manchester United ace is capable of being a more regular goalscorer in the Premier League and many expect him to improve in his second year.

ROMFORD, ENGLAND - AUGUST 23:Javier Chicharito Hernandez of West Ham United during Training at Rush Green on August 23, 2018 in Romford, England.

Hernandez has just one goal in five appearances so far this year and is struggling to nail down a spot in Manuel Pellegrini’s side, with his striker coming in the EFL Cup against AFC Wimbledon.

West Ham have a conundrum of how to get the best out of him, with Marko Arnautovic currently a regular starter in the forward position and pairing the two together seems difficult right now.

The Hammers have lost their opening four league matches and putting faith in Hernandez for the trip to Everton at the weekend would be a risk.
