New signing Javier Hernandez says it was a simple decision to join West Ham.
Javier Hernandez became the fourth signing for West Ham when he completed his £16 million move from Bayer Leverkusen earlier this week.
The Mexican international made his name as a world class striker during his time at Manchester United where he scored 59 goals in 157 games for the Red Devils in all competitions before he moved to Germany.
He maintained his goal scoring form for Bayern, and scored 39 goals during his two seasons in the Bundesliga.
Hernandez is also the all-time leading goal scorer for his country with 48 goals to his name. Needless to say, his signing is a major coup for the Hammers.
The 29-year-old spoke to the media for the first time since joining the London club, and the first question asked to him was what promoted him to move to the London club.
Hernandez replied it was a simple decision for him, as he considers the Premier League as the best league in the world.
He has hailed West Ham as one of the “historic teams” in England, and said that he was driven by the ambition shown by the club this summer.
“It was simple. It is the best league in the world, they showed me a lot of trust,” said Hernandez, as quoted by Football London.
“The coach when he called me three years ago, we stayed in touch, then when we saw this opportunity we both took it.
“West Ham is showing more ambitions than last season, they want to do the same when they qualified for Europe and have done that in this window. I am in one of the most historic teams in England we have a very ambitious season ahead of us.”
