Watford manager Javi Gracia has told the Watford Observer that he thinks new signing Domingos Quina has a ‘great future’ ahead of him.

The Hornets weren’t hugely active in the summer transfer window, but they did pounce on deadline day to raid West Ham for playmaker Quina.

The 18-year-old started out with Benfica, earning a reputation as a wonderkid before heading to Chelsea in 2013, where he was backed to become a star.

However, Quina chose to leave Stamford Bridge in 2016 instead of signing a professional deal with the club, and moved across London to join West Ham United – but even that didn’t pan out as he expected.

The Guinea-Bissau-born Portugal Under-20 international made just six first-team appearances for the Hammers despite impressing in the club’s youth ranks, and he has now moved on in search of greater first-team opportunities.

In the final stages of deadline day, Quina was sold to West Ham’s Premier League rivals Watford, as the diminutive midfielder joins a third Premier League club before the age of 19.

West Ham fans have been disappointed with Quina’s exit, but one man who appears to be impressed is Watford boss Javi Gracia, as he has told the Watford Observer that he thinks Quina has a great future ahead of him – and thinks that he could yet help Watford this season.

“He’s been with us since Sunday,” said Gracia. “He’s training with the team. He’s a young player but I believe he’s got a great future. He’s not only got a good future but we will try and see if he can help us in this moment. But I think he’s a very good player,” he added.
