Jason Pearce praises Leeds United defender Liam Cooper

Charlton Athletic’s Jason Pearce played with Liam Cooper at Leeds United.

Charlton Athletic defender Jason Pearce has spoken highly of Leeds United star Liam Cooper on The Noel Whelan Show show on BBC Radio Leeds on Friday evening (6:24pm, January 12, 2018).

Pearce was on the books of Championship club Leeds from 2012 until 2015 and played for a brief period of time with Cooper at Elland Road.

The 26-year-old defender joined the Whites from Chesterfield in the summer of 2014 and has established himself as an important player for the West Yorkshire outfit.

The former Scotland Under-19 international, who can operate as a central defender or as a left-back, has been playing well this season.

Pearce, who is now on the books of League One club Charlton, has spoken highly of Leeds defender Cooper.

“He has grown as a player,” said Pearce about Cooper on The Noel Whelan Show show on BBC Radio Leeds on Friday evening (6:24pm, January 12, 2018).

“He deserves to be where he is, and obviously the club have shown a lot of faith in him and have given him the captain’s armband now, and rightly so. He is leading the team well.”

Leeds are seventh in the Championship table at the moment with 43 points from 26 matches.

The West Yorkshire outfit are level on points with sixth-placed Sheffield United and have a game in hand.

The Whites will take on Ipswich Town away from home in the Championship this afternoon.

Meanwhile, Leeds legend Eddie Gray has commented on Luke Ayling missing the rest of the season due to an ankle injury, and told LUTV: “You will miss him, his influence, even just how he plays the game. He plays the game with enthusiasm, and that rubs off on other people.”
