Liverpool should move for RB Leipzig midfielder Naby Keita, says Jason McAteer.

Jason McAteer has suggested to The Mirror that Liverpool should sign Naby Keita from RB Leipzig in the summer transfer window.

The former Liverpool midfielder, who is 46 years of age, has claimed that Keita is a terrific footballer, and has compared him to Chelsea star N’Golo Kante.

Kante is one of the best defensive midfielders in the world and is a very important player for London club Chelsea.

The 26-year-old France international was instrumental in Leicester City winning the Premier League in 2015-16, and was then key in the Blues lifting the title last season.

McAteer has also compared Keita to former Chelsea and Real Madrid defensive midfielder Claude Makelele.

“I watch a lot of the Bundesliga and Keita is a terrific player,” McAteer told The Mirror. “He’s in the mould of N’Golo Kante and Claude Makelele – he’s full of energy, always breaking play up and getting his team on the front foot,” he said.

“If Klopp manages to get him out of Leipzig it would be fantastic and allow Can to play a more forward role which would suit him better.”

Keita is just 22 years of age, meaning that he can still improve and add more facets to his game; the youngster would be a very good long-term signing for Liverpool.

The Guinea international midfielder played well for RB Leipzig last season, as he scored eight goals and provided seven assists in 31 Bundesliga appearances.
