Jason McAteer says Manchester United’s Paul Pogba could get into Liverpool starting lineup

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Manchester United will face Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool this weekend.

Jason McAteer has told The Racing Post that the only Manchester United player who would get into the current Liverpool starting lineup is Paul Pogba.

The former Liverpool midfielder made the comments ahead of the Premier League game between United and the Reds at Old Trafford on Sunday.

France international Pogba will not feature in the match due to a foot injury, as reported by BBC Sport.

McAteer told The Racing Post: “The gulf in class between Liverpool and Manchester United is the biggest it has been in the Premier League era without a shadow of a doubt.

“United have issues at board level and on the pitch. The only one of their players I think could make it into the Liverpool team is Paul Pogba.”

Under-performing

Pogba established himself as one of the best midfielders in the world when he was at Italian giants Juventus, but the 26-year-old has struggled to reach that level during his second spell at United so far.

The France international midfielder, who returned to Old Trafford in 2016, has failed to maintain consistency, and on many occasions he has not risen to the occasion.

However, there is no doubt that the Frenchman – who is valued at €120 million (£103.56m) by the CIES Football Observatory – is hugely talented and has a lot of quality, and perhaps it will click for him this season.

According to WhoScored, the 26-year-old has made only five appearances in the Premier League for United so far this season, providing two assists in the process.
