That dream of winning all four trophies in Jurgen Klopp’s final season at Liverpool was thrown out of the window on Sunday.

Against the worst possible team, Liverpool suffered a morale-sapping 4-3 extra-time loss in the FA Cup to Manchester United, but it could have all been avoided.

There were mistakes galore from the team, including a costly one from Darwin Nunez in extra time, which didn’t go down well with Jason McAteer.

With less than ten minutes left on the clock, Liverpool’s number nine was in the left-back spot and he proceeded to step inside and try to play the ball into midfield.

Jason McAteer was left stunned by his actions and questioned ‘why would you do that’, as he told beIN SPORTS (17/03/24 at 6:10 pm).

The former Liverpool man made it clear that he would be calling the 24-year-old out in the dressing room.

That error led to Marcus Rashford equalising before Amad Diallo scored a stoppage-time winner he will remember for the rest of his life.

Yes, Manchester United didn’t give up and kept themselves in the game, but Liverpool’s silly errors and poor decision-making certainly helped them along the way.

Darwin Nunez’s error

“If I am going into the dressing room, I am saying why are you there? (The left-back spot) and why is that the decision you made,” said McAteer.

“To come inside, at that point of the game, and try to play a ball inside. Why are you doing that? You have got Tsimikas behind you. You can kill this game!

“First of all, I don’t want you there. Secondly, that isn’t the decision in that part of the football pitch. You don’t make that decision. That is a simple basic mistake.”

Premier League and the Europa League

Yes, it’s going to be difficult for Liverpool fans to watch their bitter rivals head to Wembley and edge closer to possibly winning the FA Cup.

But the Premier League title is still up for grabs, and let’s be honest, that’s the trophy everyone at Anfield wants the most.

If Klopp walks out with that, added with the League Cup and not forgetting the Europa League, then it would be some send-off for the German.
