Mark Waburton is under pressure at Rangers after a difficult week at Ibrox.

Rangers’ difficult week came to an end with a 0-0 draw against Ross County at Ibrox yesterday.

Following on from the 5-1 loss to Old Firm rivals Celtic and the Joey Barton affair, that result was, in context, good for the club.

There was another plus as well – with the return to first-team action for Rangers midfielder Jason Holt. The 23-year-old had not played since the 5-0 win against Peterhead on the 9th August and he slotted into Barton’s place in the team at Ibrox.

Barton was of course unavailable after being banished by Rangers boss Mark Warburton after a training ground altercation with Andy Halliday.

Holt, as quoted by the Aberdeen Evening Express, was asked this weekend about whether there was still a good team togetherness at the club in the wake of the Barton incident.

His reply was direct:

“Definitely, yeah. Definitely.”

He also spoke about the pressure on Rangers, who he says are expected to win every game they play:

“A team like Rangers is expected to win every week. There are high demands and we need to produce on the park.

“It’s up to us – the players and the staff – and we’ll do our best to do that.”

Holt is clearly trying to paint a picture that all is well at Rangers, despite events of the past week suggesting quite the contrary.

Barton will meet with Warburton tomorrow for talks over the incident and Rangers fans will be hoping the best conclusion for the club is found.
