Rangers midfielder Jason Holt has told the club’s official website that it is important for them to start picking up momentum after the international break.

The Gers have not enjoyed a strong start to the season, earning just three wins from their first eight games.

They were in winning form before the international break, though, as they beat Partick Thistle 2-0 at Ibrox.

This weekend sees them taking on Inverness Caledonian Thistle away from home looking to make it back-to-back wins.

And Holt says it is important that they do just that and start to gain momentum as the season progresses.

“I think it’s just important now for us to get that momentum going,” he told the club’s official website.

“We won the game last week and we want to put that together. I think it’s about getting that balance, but I know that there’s more to come.”

Joey Barton applauds fans as he is substituted

Holt has become a key player in the Rangers midfield in recent weeks having missed the beginning of the campaign through injury.

His chance has come about largely because of the absence of Joey Barton, who is still in the midst of a club ban following his fallout with manager Mark Warburton.

Besides Barton, there is fierce competition from elsewhere for a place in the Gers midfield and despite his recent run, Holt is not taking anything for granted.

“I think last season a few of the players knew that they would play every week because we never had enough numbers and strength in depth in the squad,” he added.

“However I think this season it’s completely different, you can’t take your starting place for granted and if you do and don’t perform there’s people behind you waiting in line. It’s down to you to perform well and keep the jersey.”
