Jason Holt praises Jamie Barjonas after Rangers youngster signs new contract

Jamie Barjonas handed Glasgow Rangers a boost this week by signing a new two-year deal at Ibrox.

Jason Holt has told Rangers’ official website that he has been extremely impressed by what he has seen from Jamie Barjonas after the Gers youngster committed his future to the club by signing a new deal recently.

Barjonas is arguably one of the brightest prospects coming through at Ibrox currently, and the Scottish Premiership side recognised that fact by handing him a new deal that will see him tied down until 2020, as reported by BBC Sport.

And Holt expressed his delight at seeing the 18-year-old midfielder sign a new contract, insisting that he has been excited by what he has seen from the teenager and adding that he will be happy to help him realise his potential.

“I’ve been really impressed and I’m delighted for him extending his contract. Every time he has trained with the first team you have been able to see his qualities,” he told the club’s official website.

“With him being in the same position as myself, any tips or bits of advice I can give to him, I will always do that and it’s the same with guys like Ryan Jack and Graeme Dorrans too.

“I’m sure on the other hand too Jamie will always be looking to learn. It’s always great when you see young players given that chance and then them going and taking that opportunity.”

Barjonas’ new deal is the latest encouraging sign to emerge from Rangers that suggests that they are getting back to being in a good place after the end of Pedro Caixinha’s tenure – and are looking to put the foundations in place to give them a better chance of putting themselves back amongst the pace-setters in the top flight.

And the Gers supporters will be hoping that Barjonas and Aidan Wilson – who also signed a new contract recently – will not be the last players to commit their future to the club before long.
