Jason Holt asked if Rangers squad would be happy with Graeme Murty in charge permanently

Glasgow Rangers caretaker boss Graeme Murty has done a fantastic job since returning to the Ibrox hot-seat.

Jason Holt has suggested that the Rangers squad would be pleased if the board decided to hand current caretaker Graeme Murty the manager’s job on a permanent basis, the Daily Record reports.

Murty is in his second spell as Gers caretaker boss following Pedro Caixinha’s departure towards the end of last month at Ibrox. And like his first spell, the under-20s coach has done his chances of getting the job on a full-time basis no harm at all.

The Gers have won both of their games under the former Scotland international, beating Hearts 3-1 at Murrayfield and then besting Partick Thistle 3-0 at Ibrox at the weekend.

And while Holt was quick to stress that it is not his decision to make, he did admit that Murty would be a welcome appointment amongst the squad.

“Yes, the boys have enjoyed working with him but it’s not up to me to decide that,” he said, as reported by the Daily Record, when asked whether the squad would be pleased with Murty taking the job permanently.

“It seems like the board are taking
 their time and that’s fine by us
 because we’re in safe hands.”

Though Murty has done extremely well, given that he has twice taken over when the team has looked bereft of confidence, he arguably needs to prove that he can secure these kind of results over a prolonged period when the initial boost has worn off.

Of course, the 42-year-old is the only Rangers manager to avoid defeat against Celtic since their return to the Scottish Premiership, and with the current results looking very impressive, it appears that the number of fans wanting Murty to be given the job is increasing with almost every performance.
