New Sunderland signing Jason Denayer has told the club’s official website what qualities he will bring to David Moyes’ side.

The defender was a deadline day signing from Manchester City as Moyes moved quickly to improve his team.

He has been brought in to add much-needed needed competition to a Black Cats defence that lost one of its star men, Younes Kaboul, to Watford this summer.

Denayer will be something of an unknown to the Sunderland faithful unless they happened to see his performances during a successful loan spell with Celtic.

And he has attempted to give them an insight into what they can expect from once he’s in the side.

“I’m really happy to be here and excited to start,” he told the club’s official website.

“I see myself as a defender with physical qualities. I’m quite fast and I can play with the ball. I can give something to the team, maybe different, and I hope that is what I will do.”

Denayer will now be hoping to break into the Sunderland first team sooner rather than later.

He faces something of a fight to get in, with Lamine Kone firmly established himself as the first choice in the position after his performances last season while Papy Djilobodji has made a relatively strong start to life in the North East.

Moyes is far from settled on his team though and the Belgian will be hoping to take advantage of that and become a regular this season.
