Tottenham Hotspur star Toby Alderweireld is one of the best central defenders in the world.

Alderweireld is one of the best central defenders in the world and has established himself as a key figure in the current Tottenham team over the past two seasons.
Spurs paid Spanish club Atletico Madrid a transfer fee of £11.4 million in the summer of 2015, as reported by The Guardian, in order to secure the services of the centre-back.

According to The London Evening Standard, the 28-year-old earns £50,000-a-week at Spurs, with whom he has a contract until 2019, although the North London outfit have the option to extend it to 2020.
“Should Alderweireld not agree a new extension before 2019, however, a £25million release clause when the Belgian is 30 will become active,” adds the report in The London Evening Standard.
Spurs defender Alderweireld has told Sky Sports that he is happy at the Premier League club, but he has revealed that a new deal has yet to be offered to him.

Former Chelsea and Tottenham defender Jason Cundy, who now works as a pundit for talkSPORT, has given his take on the situation of Alderweireld at Spurs.
“For me, he is the best centre-half in the country, or has been over the last two years,” said Cundy about Alderweireld on the Drive show on talkSPORT on Friday evening (5:55pm, October 6, 2017).
“I do not understand why they do not extend his contract and give him what he is worth. Spurs are cheapskates.”
