Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers signed Jason Cummings this month, a year and a half after first being linked.
Jason Cummings has told Rangers’ official website YouTube channel that Mark Warburton wanted to sign him back in 2016.
The 22-year-old joined Graeme Murty’s side on a half-season loan this month but history suggests that a move to Ibrox might’ve been a long time coming.
Cummings was linked with a move to Warburton’s Rangers 18 months ago, with The Scottish Sun reporting at the time that Hibernian wanted around £1 million.
A move for the Scottish striker never materialised but Warburton did get his man eventually after signing him for Nottingham Forest last summer, before being sacked by the Championship club on New Years Eve.
And Cummings confirms that there must’ve been a bit of truth to the rumours swirling around back in 2016.
He told Rangers’ official YouTube channel: “There’s always been a bit of speculation to come here.
“Obviously Warburton must’ve liked me because when he went to Forest he took me in there, so there must’ve been a wee bit of truth to it yeah.”
Cummings had a brilliant goalscoring record in the Scottish Championship, scoring 37 times in 57 starts for Hibs in the past two seasons before his move down South.
Rangers host Aberdeen at Ibrox tonight and it’ll be interesting to see if the young marksman is just as effective in the Premiership.
He has a point to prove after scoring once in 14 Championship games for Forest this season.
