Jason Cummings admits wanting Rangers return in future

Jason Cummings joined Glasgow Rangers on loan in January, but his spell at Ibrox did not see him earn a permanent move.

In comments reported by the Daily Record, Jason Cummings has insisted that he hopes to return to Rangers one day in the future and admitted that he was genuinely disappointed that he was not kept on following his loan move last season.

Cummings was arguably the Gers’ most exciting addition during the January transfer window. A difficult spell at Nottingham Forest did not take away from the fact that he had been lethal for much of his time with Hibernian, and the Gers undoubtedly needed more depth up front with Alfredo Morelos and Josh Windass shouldering most of the goalscoring burden.

Unfortunately for Cummings, he was never quite able to force his way ahead of Morelos in the pecking order. A hat-trick against Falkirk in the cup was the high-point, but he ended his loan spell with just six goals so it probably surprised few supporters when Steven Gerrard decided against keeping the Scotland international when he was appointed in the summer.

But the striker has conceded that he was disappointed not to be kept by the Gers and added that he hopes that he has not pulled on the Light Blues jersey for the final time.

“Maybe Rangers didn’t want me as much as I wanted them. So I was genuinely disappointed,” he said, as reported by the Record.

“Even now, I watch videos of me playing for Rangers. I follow them every game, along with Jason Naismith who’s here and is a big Rangers fan.

“I want to go back one day, that would be a dream for me. I’ll try and push for it because it’s somewhere I want to be again, 100 per cent.”

While it did not quite work out for Cummings at Ibrox last season, it would not be a huge shock if he did return to the club in the future. He is scoring for fun in his latest loan spell with Peterborough and he is hardly the kind of player that the Gers will be able to forget about in a hurry.
