Key Leeds United man wants impressive moves this summer.
Leeds United centre-back Pontus Jansson put the club on notice last week by insisting he wants to see a commitment of their plans this summer.
This was his response to a question about his future, and he told Swedish newspaper Expressen: “We’ll see what’s happening, I want to hear from the club how to look next year and so on.”
Jansson has had a difficult season as Leeds have struggled, and poor performances from his teammates have dragged his consistency down too.
One signing would convince him to stay put, and that would be if Leeds splashed out for Pontus Jansson’s partner from 2016/17, Kyle Bartley.
The duo were outstanding, forging a terrific partnership and leading Leeds to possess the fourth best defence in the league that season.
Both were on loan, but only Jansson was able to sign permanently.
Swansea perhaps understandably wanted a second look at Bartley, denying Leeds the chance to get their man.
But this season has not worked out satisfactorily for Bartley. He got injured early on but has been fit since the start of February when he made the bench for Swansea’s defeat to Spurs.
Despite this he is not a part of new boss Carlos Carvalhal’s first team, and Bartley has played just 166 minutes of Premier League football all season, mostly used just in cup games.
Leeds should feel they have a genuine chance of bringing him back to Elland Road at the rate it is going, and they show the ambition Pontus Jansson wants them to.
If there is one player who will keep Jansson focused, then Bartley is the player who can get the Swede feeling positive, and get fans believing too.
