Leeds United finally announced last night the news every supporter wanted to hear, Pontus Jansson has signed a permanent contract.

Jansson has signed until 2020, with the deal officially kicking in from July when his loan deal expires.

Jansson has been a leader for the club since signing from Torino in August, becoming a fan favourite and striking up a partnership with fellow loanee Kyle Bartley in central defence.

The Swedish international has been speaking to LUTV about the deal, and said he knew from day one it was a club he wanted to join permanently.

Jansson credits head coach Garry Monk for making him feel particularly welcome.

Asked when he knew he wanted to sign properly with Leeds, he said: “Since the first day. I had a good feeling when I came here. I thought it would be a good move for me.

“He (Monk) gave me a big hug. It was so important to me. In Italy it is so different. It was a special feeling, I knew it would be my new home.”

Commenting on his dream to win promotion to the Premier League, he added: “We are not close but we are on the right way, and if we go there it is going to be the biggest memory of my life.”

Leeds are in fourth place in the Championship, with Jansson netting a dramatic late winner away to Blackburn on Wednesday night.
