Pontus Jansson of Leeds United celebrates after the Sky Bet Championship match between Leeds United and Sheffield Wednesday at Elland Road on February 25, 2017 in Leeds, England.

Leeds United defender Pontus Jansson has told The Express that Pierre-Michel Lasogga is going to be an important player for the team.

Lasogga made his debut for Leeds on Saturday afternoon following his move from Hamburg on a season-long loan deal in the summer transfer window.

The 25-year-old striker scored twice for the Whites, as the West Yorkshire outfit hammered Burton Albion 5-0 at Elland Road in the Championship.

The German was signed as a replacement for Chris Wood, who scored 27 goals in the Championship last season and left for Burnley in the Premier League in the summer transfer window.

Leeds defender Jansson has spoken highly of Lasogga and told The Express: “He’s a good guy. I have some friends in the [Sweden] national team who have played with him at Hamburg, so I know a bit about him.

“He has started with two good goals and some good finishes and I think he’s going to be important for us.

“The change this year is that we have so many more offensive options. With Wood, he was a good target but now we have players with other qualities.”

Lasogga is a very good striker, and he showed on his debut against Burton that he is more than capable of replacing Wood in the team.

Leeds have made a strong start to the 2017-18 Championship campaign and are one of the favourites to finish in the top six.

Thomas Christiansen’s side will return to action on Tuesday evening when they take on Birmingham City at Elland Road in the Championship.
