The Tottenham Hotspur striker has endured a torrid start to life in north London.

During an exclusive interview with Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf, Spurs flop Vincent Janssen explained how he has given himself a timeline of 12 months in which to prove himself at the club, and highlighted how he has already made big steps forwards in his fledgling career.

The 22-year-old made the move to White Hart Lane from AZ Alkmaar in the summer, for a fee believed to be in the region of £17 million, but has struggled to establish himself in Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

He has failed to score a single goal from open play, with all of his four goals in the 27 games he has played coming from the penalty spot.

And many Tottenham fans believe that he has had more than enough chances to prove himself already.

But Janssen insisted that he still deserves time to prove his true worth to the Lilywhites, when speaking to De Telegraaf, and shared how he has set himself a deadline of sorts to do just that:

“I have given myself 12 months to succeed in the Premier League with Tottenham and those 12 months are not over yet. The level is really high here. Up until last week we were second in the league. Don’t forget I had only played one season at the highest level in Holland when Spurs bought me from AZ Alkmaar. In a short period of time I have made some big steps forward in my career. I’m not going to throw the towel in just because things are not going great for the first time in my career.”

The big problem for the Holland international is that he just doesn’t seem to have the pace, or footballing nouse required to succeed in the Premier League.

He is cumbersome, and totally devoid of any kind of killer instinct in front of goal, and combined with desperately low confidence levels, he has really struggled to influence any of Tottenham’s games in a positive manner.

Quite how much longer Pochettino is prepared to give Janssen is unclear, but one would suspect that he could be shipped out of the club in the summer, if he fails to improve between now and the end of the season.
