It was the striker’s fourth goal in ten caps for his country, a far better ratio than the six in 38 he scored during his debut season at Tottenham Hotspur.

The touch and finish from the 22-year-old shows both good positioning and technique and continues his decent scoring record in his career for every team but Tottenham so far.

Admittedly one goal doesn’t redeem a failing forward, but there was plenty to impress the White Hart Lane faithful about Janssen in 2016/17 – not least his work rate and eagerness to improve.
It may not have been quite what Spurs fans were expecting from a £17m signing last term, but maybe goals like this for the Dutch national side shows that the capability is there.
