Jannik Sinner has decided to pull out of the Monte Carlo Masters doubles event, where he was set to play alongside Zizou Bergs.
Sinner and Bergs were teaming up for the first time at this tournament, entering as a new pairing in the draw.
Their partnership got off to a good start, picking up a win over Casper Ruud and Tomas Machac in their opening match.
But it didn’t last long. News of Sinner’s withdrawal came via a social media post from Bergs’ father.

Sinner and Bergs were set to face the eighth seeds Manuel Guinard and Guido Andreozzi in the second round.
That match is now off the schedule, and it was Koen Bergs, Zizou’s father, who shared that Sinner had made the call to withdraw.
Sinner has a chance to overtake Carlos Alcaraz as world number one this week, and there doesn’t seem to be any hard feelings from the Bergs side about his choice.
Koen posted on X (formerly Twitter), “It is official now. No doubles R2 for Zizou and Jannik. Jannik withdraws from the doubles draw.”
“Understandable since he can become N1 in this tournament. Nevertheless, great experience for Zizou which will never be forgotten.”
Jannik Sinner could face Zizou Bergs at the Monte Carlo Masters
Sinner will now be able to focus solely on his singles campaign, and Bergs is also still competing in the tournament.
Bergs pulled off an upset by defeating 13th seed and former champion Andrey Rublev to reach the third round in his Monte Carlo main draw debut.
Although both players are in the same half of the draw, a meeting between them is still a few wins away.
If both Sinner and Bergs make it to the semifinals, it would set up just their second career meeting.
Sinner won their previous encounter at the Paris Masters last year. Both players need two more victories each for a rematch to happen.
