New Watford signing Daryl Janmaat has told the club’s official website he is impressed by the level of ambition being shown at Vicarage Road, adding he is glad to be plying his trade in the Premier League once more.

The Netherlands international completed a move from Championship side Newcastle United for an undisclosed fee on Wednesday, signing a four-year contract at the club.

He joins having made 77 appearances for the Magpies, notching four goals. His last outing for the club came during the 2-1 defeat at home to Huddersfield Town earlier in the month.

Janmaat’s future on Tyneside has been the subject of speculation ever since Newcastle’s relegation from the Premier League was confirmed, with reports earlier in the summer linking him with a move to West Ham United.

But it’s Watford who have completed a deal, and Janmaat claims he is joining a club on the up, adding he has been impressed by what he’s seen so far from his new employers.

He told the club’s official website: “I’m really happy to be here, it’s a new adventure for me. I was really pleased that Watford showed interest in me because I wanted to play in the Premier League.

“We [Newcastle] lost three times to Watford last season. They had a good season and I hope we can do the same again this year.

“The club is showing great ambition and wants to improve and I want to be part of that.”

Meanwhile, Janmaat is set to be replaced at St James’ Park by former Sunderland full-back DeAndre Yedlin.
