Tottenham defender has one year left on his current contract.
Tottenham Hotspur centre-back Jan Vertonghen will sign a two-year contract if offered, says Belgian football expert Kristoff Terreur.
Terreur told Sky Sports that Vertonghen is happy at Tottenham, but a one year deal would not provide him the security he wants.
Vertonghen’s current contract expires in a year’s time.
Spurs do not normally like to offer long term deals to players in their 30s.
Terreur said: “He’s willing to stay and play under Pochettino. It will depend on what Spurs are offering him.
“If they offer him a two-year deal he will sign it. They will have to offer him good money too because it’s his last contract.”
If there is a player worth making an exception for, then it should be a model pro like Vertonghen.
Tottenham are also at risk of losing Toby Alderweireld, and the pair have been the cornerstones of the club’s success.
Paying Vertonghen a bit extra over two years would surely still be cheaper than laying out on a replacement, and he’d probably be better too.
