Jan Vertonghen has intimated that he’d be more than happy to sign a new contract at Tottenham Hotspur.

The long-serving Spurs defender will be available to leave on a Bosman next summer if no extension has been agreed and signed.

Vertonghen, who joined Tottenham in 2012 under Andre Villas-Boas, turns 33 in April and it remains to be seen whether the North Londoners give him a new deal.

But the Belgium international is loving life in England and hinted that he would be open to staying beyond next summer.

He told The Standard: “I just want to focus on this year, I know I have got one year left so I know a lot of questions will be asked.”

“I have said it before, I am very happy at the club. I am not sure what is going to happen this year, I can only say I am happy where I am at and I feel the support from the manager, team-mates and the squad.”

Vertonghen’s compatriot and centre-back partner Toby Alderweireld is also out of contract next summer.

The 30-year-old has been linked with a move away in recent weeks and his team-mate admits that he doesn’t know if he’ll be a Lilywhite beyond Thursday’s transfer deadline.

He added: “You never know [what will happen] but I have played for so many years with Toby. He is a very good player and a great guy for the group. It is out of my hands but he is here now and I am happy with that.”
