Chadli became West Brom’s club-record signing when he joined in a £13m deal on Monday.
Tottenham Hotspur sold attacking midfielder Nacer Chadli to West Bromwich Albion for £13 million on Monday, and Spurs defender Jan Vertonghen is clearly sad to see his teammate go.
Chadli had become surplus to requirements at White Hart Lane under Mauricio Pochettino in recent times, with his appearances for Spurs increasingly coming from the substitutes’ bench.
The Belgian winger started only 60% of the competitive games he played for the North London club in the three years since making a move from Twente, and he has not played a single minute of the current campaign to date.
His exit had become expected, and on Monday it was announced that Albion had paid a club-record £13 million to bring the 27-year-old to the Hawthorns.
With Spurs having added quality to their side in recent times it is unlikely that Chadli will be missed too much by supporters, although with the club competing in the Champions League, some would have been hoping to see him stay and replicate the form of two years ago, when he scored 13 times in 45 appearances.
One person who is certainly sad to see him go is club and international teammate Vertonghen, who tweeted a fond farewell message after the move was confirmed.
He tweeted: “Always sad to see a good friend go, but all the best big man.”
Chadli departs White Hart Lane having scored 25 goals in 199 appearances.
