Tottenham Hotspur defender Eric Dier has received support from Jan Vertonghen and Kieran Trippier after shining against Chelsea.
Eric Dier stepped up for Tottenham Hotspur against Chelsea on Monday night and has received support from a couple of former team-mates.
Tottenham were looking to keep their unbeaten start to the Premier League season, but ended up losing 4-1 in a bonkers clash with Chelsea.
Spurs lost two defenders in quick succession as Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven were red-card and substituted with an injury respectively.
That meant a rare chance for Dier, making his first appearance of the season.
Eric Dier earns support from former Tottenham Hotspur players
Dier didn’t do himself any harm, turning in a strong performance even with Tottenham playing a very high line.
The 29-year-old may now be needed by Tottenham moving forward with both Romero and Van de Ven unavailable.
Dier has had to be patient and wait for his chance under Ange Postecoglou, and he is now receiving support from former Spurs teammates.
Dier took to Instagram on Wednesday to post a photo of himself in action against Chelsea.
Jan Vertonghen simply posted a crown emoji whilst Newcastle United ace Kieran Trippier stated ‘my bro’ alongside three clapping emojis.
Vertonghen and Trippier haven’t played with Dier for a while now but it’s clear that they will think very highly of him.
Kyle Walker-Peters added ‘love to see it’ with Dier seemingly popular with players from the Mauricio Pochettino era at Tottenham.
Dier may still leave Tottenham in 2024
Tottenham fans will certainly appreciate Dier’s service to the club and his performance against Chelsea on Monday.
Dier has now been with Tottenham for nearly 10 years and has now played more than 350 times for the club.
There have been ups and downs along the way and the time for Dier to leave may now be on the horizon.
Dier is out of contract at the end of the season and, even after Monday’s display, a new deal seems unlikely.
Reports in Italy suggest that Roma are keen on Dier with Jose Mourinho allegedly making contact over a deal.
Dier reportedly wants a three-and-a-half-year deal in his next move, and Spurs are unlikely to come close to that.
Monday’s display shows that Dier still has something left in the tank, but a 2024 exit still feels inevitable.
