Tottenham Hotspur are in with a real chance of Premier League glory this season.

Spurs stand-in skipper Jan Vertonghen spoke to reporters after his side’s incredible late comeback against Swansea City last night, and highlighted how Tottenham are perceived in a different light to how they were previously, as quoted by the Evening Standard.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men remained in second position in the table after their 3-1 win over the Swans, just seven points adrift of league leaders Chelsea, with eight games remaining in the Premier League title race.

The Lilywhites have been so impressive this season in the manner in which they have gone about their business, with their stubborn defence forming the cornerstone of their success.

And the Belgium international has played an integral role in his side’s campaign.

He spoke to reporters after the game at the Liberty Stadium, and expressed his belief that Tottenham are now considered to be genuine title contenders, in vast contrast to recent seasons, as quoted by the Evening Standard:

“People always said Tottenham were able to beat the smaller teams but not the big ones. In the past couple of years, we have been doing both. Teams are now keeping us in mind when they talk about winning the league or finishing in the top four. Before, it was always ‘Tottenham will finish fifth or sixth’.”

With Antonio Conte’s Chelsea not playing until 17:30 on Saturday evening, the north London outfit could find themselves just four points adrift of the Blues by 14:15 on the same day, if they manage to beat Watford at White Hart Lane.

And that really would crank the pressure up on this season’s champions-elect.
