Can Tottenham Hotspur win the Premier League? Jan Vertonghen is certain they can.
Jan Vertonghen has told The Mirror that Tottenham Hotspur can “definitely” win the Premier League title next season.
Spurs finished second behind champions Chelsea last term but it was the second year in succession that Mauricio Pochettino’s side seriously challenged for the title.
It might, however, be different next time around.
The Lilywhites’ form at White Hart Lane was a huge factor in their title tilts of recent seasons, having lost twice at home since January 2016, but Pochettino’s side will play their home games at Wembley next season, prompting doubt as to whether they’ll be as strong.
Asked by The Mirror whether Tottenham can win the Premier League this time around, the Belgian centre-back emphatically claimed they could, but urged his team-mates to ‘up their game’ amid Spurs’ rivals heavily strengthening so far this summer.
”Yes definitely,” he said. “The way our rivals are strengthening themselves this season, we need to be aware of that and we need to level up as well.
“I’m not saying with new players but we need to take our levels up and I think we can. I’m the oldest one in the team outfield and I feel very fit.
“The younger guys can improve even more. It can definitely be our year and we want it to be our year.”
