Tottenham defender hasn’t won away to Arsenal in five attempts.
Tottenham Hotspur defender Jan Vertonghen has revealed that he is determined to gain his first ever win away to Arsenal this weekend.
Vertonghen has played five times for Tottenham at Emirates Stadium and is yet to experience a victory, with Arsenal winning two of those fixtures and the three most recent encounters ending in draws.
The rivals do battle again on Saturday and Vertonghen has extra motivation to help his side gain three points.
Vertonghen told Sky Sports: “I can’t recall I’ve won at the Emirates, so that’s what we’re going for this weekend.
“Obviously we’re doing well with Spurs, Arsenal as well.
“It will be a good game, they’re always good games. There’s always respect between us but two positive sides will always make a good game.”
Tottenham are currently third in the Premier League, three places and four points ahead of Arsenal.
There had been some concern regarding Vertonghen’s fitness after the centre-back didn’t feature in Belgium’s 3-3 draw with Mexico last week but he played the full 90 minutes in the 1-0 friendly win over Japan last night.
Tottenham have played some excellent, dynamic football this season under the guidance of Mauricio Pochettino but they have also been resilient defensively as they have conceded just seven times in the Premier League.
Vertonghen has certainly played his part in proceedings and the 30-year-old will hope to continue to make an impact on Saturday.
