Tottenham Hotspur will face Apoel Nicosia away from home at the Pancyprian Gymnastic Association Stadium in Champions League Group H on Tuesday evening.
Sissoko, 28, has been playing well for Tottenham this season and seems to have established himself in the starting lineup for now.
The former Newcastle United midfielder failed to make a huge impact at White Hart Lane last season.
The France international was expected to be merely a squad player for Spurs this season, but injuries to fellow midfielders Mousa Dembele and Victor Wanyama seem to have open the door for him.
Spurs defender Vertonghen has praised Sissoko and believes that he can be a good solution for Mauricio Pochettino’s side.
The Frenchman could start against Apoel Nicosia away from home at the Pancyprian Gymnastic Association Stadium in Champions League Group H on Tuesday evening, especially with fellow midfielder Dele Alli injured.
Sissoko, who joined Tottenham from Newcastle in the summer of 2016 for a transfer fee reported by BBC Sport to be worth £30 million, played against West Ham United at the London Stadium in the Premier League at the weekend.
Vertonghen has been on the books of Spurs since the summer of 2012 when he joined from Ajax for a transfer fee reported by The Daily Mail to be worth £10 million.
“He (Dembele) feels his own body the best and hopefully he’s back 100 per cent real quick because he’s a very important player for us,” Vertonghen told Ham&High.
“Of course we’ve got some other options – Moussa Sissoko can play in that role as well, we’ve got Winksy (Harry Winks) on the bench and [Victor] Wanyama coming back. Eric [Dier] has done brilliantly there.
“When we play five at the back, we need one midfielder less so it’s easier for us to make a different formation.
“Sissoko did very well there on Saturday. Maybe he’s used to playing on the side a bit more but he did very well for us in that position. He can be a good solution for us.”
